When searching for a corkscrew, you are flooded with numerous options: motorized corkscrews, wing corkscrews, screwpull corkscrews, and then there is the so-called waiter's knife. However, not only waiters use this tool; most sommeliers also prefer this way of opening bottles over others. The waiter’s knife has the most compact format and comes equipped with everything you need: a small knife to cut the foil around the bottleneck and a corkscrew with a lever to easily extract the cork. With a little practice, opening a bottle of wine with a waiter's knife is the most convenient and in my view at the same time the most elegant. You won't want to revert to any other option.
Let me explain why I chose this particular waiter's friend from all the options available: The waiter's knife from Cartailler-Deluc, forged in Thiers, is entirely made of stainless steel. Its parts are connected with durable solid brass screws, offering ease in replacing components when needed. The spindle, constructed from hardened steel and securely held by a spring of solid round steel, features a non-stick coating for smoother cork insertion. For improved grip during uncorking, an additional outer groove has been included. All of this comes in a super-slim and beautiful form factor.
