Toyama Hamono has a rich heritage dating back to the Bunkyu era of the Edo period. After its establishment in 1861, when it began crafting wooden scissors in Juhei Koji (now Shinmei-cho) in Sanjo, the company is now led by Hidenobu in the fifth generation. The scissors crafted by Toyama Hamono are infused with a myriad of traditional techniques such as "fire forging," "back grinding," and "gobadori" (fivefold). Recognized for their consistent quality, they have garnered admiration from customers both domestically and internationally. To shape the scissors according to the desired form, artisans rely on their senses of "color," "sound," and "shape," molding them with fingertip sensitivity. Traditional techniques continuously evolve through the fusion with advancing mechanical technologies, adapting to both the present and future eras.
"Our goal is to remain a cherished brand for generations to come. We are dedicated to upholding the enduring values of 'trust' and 'quality' that we have upheld for 160 years, ensuring that we continue to deliver excellence to our customers." – Toyama Hamono
